This website is based on the book Neue Lernwelten (New Worlds of Learning), which documents the evolution of school and kindergarten architecture in Austria from 2010 to 2025. It addresses educators and architects alike and aims to establish common ground for collaboration between the disciplines. To this end, it offers several ways to approach the topic: 50 case studies, 6 introductory essays, and 5 discussions among experts.
Fifty case studies present exemplary schools and kindergartens across Austria. These include projects in urban and rural environments as well as new buildings and renovations, conversions, and expansions. The projects were selected in collaboration between ÖISS and the Architekturstiftung Österreich, chaired by Christian Kühn.
Six introductory essays provide an overview of the topic from various perspectives at the intersection of architecture and pedagogy. After a general analysis of recent developments, the essays focus on the topics of participation, sustainability, regulatory frameworks, and future outlooks.
The topics addressed in the essays are explored in greater depth in expert round table talks that bring differing viewpoints into dialogue, with the goal of establishing a shared understanding of current and future challenges.

It serves as a center of expertise for the planning, construction, and operation of educational, sports, and movement spaces in Austria.
About the bookThe essays and case studies were written by 12 authors. The essays provide a theoretical framework, while the case studies explain the different pioneering qualities of each individual project.
